Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect with counseling?

Counseling, also known as therapy or psychotherapy, is a process to help treat mental health issues or diagnoses.  You will find a non-judgmental safe place to tell your story and have a compassionate witness to your struggles.

We work with you to explore connections between your past experiences, thoughts, and emotions and how they influence the patterns in your life. Counseling focuses on increasing self-understanding and learning skills to build on strengths to enhance your quality of life.

It can address unhealthy relationships, family dynamics, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, addiction, managing emotions, past trauma, grief/loss, adjusting to something new in your life, and other mental health-related issues.

What can I expect at my first counseling session?

During the session, we will get to know you and your story. You will be asked how I can help you reach your goals and together we will develop a plan. It is normal to feel nervous at your first visit because you may be sharing very personal information. However, your courage to seek help and begin to create the change you want in your life will make you more comfortable as the process continues.

What is your cancellation policy?

There is no charge for counseling sessions canceled 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment. However, those canceling less than 24 hours will incur a charge to the client’s credit card on file for the full amount of the session. Repeat “no-show” or “late-canceled” appointments could result in termination of treatment. As well, if you are going to be later than 7 minutes we will need to reschedule and a fee is incurred. Insurance companies typically do not accept claims for missed or unused appointments. When a session is canceled without adequate notice, I am unable to fill this time slot by offering it to another current client, a client on the waitlist, or a client with a clinical emergency. Please make every effort to keep your appointment and arrive on time.

With IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback sessions, there is no charge for sessions canceled 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment. However, those canceling less than 24 hours will incur a charge to the client’s credit card on file for the $80.
