Offering supervision services for Texas LPC Associates

My Philosophy and Approach

As an LPC supervisor, my philosophy is to provide you with a safe and supportive environment where you can learn and develop as a counselor. I strive to create a trusting and open space for you to grow in self-discovery as we cannot take others further than where we ourselves have journeyed. As a professional, you will have space to build your competencies and skills with encouraging feedback and collaboration to reach your goal of becoming independently licensed.

My roles in a supervisory position are as a teacher, consultant, coach, counselor, and evaluator. As a fellow traveler with you on this journey, I come alongside you to both support and challenge. Support is given to provide an opportunity to share your frustrations, fears, and concerns as well as your triumphs. Challenging encourages you to expand your critical thinking skills, increase your competencies/skills, and explore who you are as a counselor.

I follow a developmental approach/model to supervision and as you grow in your skills/experience I will move from a teacher role into more of a consultant role.  I follow the Integrated Developmental Model (IDM), created by Stoltenberg, McNeil, and Delworth, which posits that supervisees develop over time and through three phases: self and other awareness, motivation, and dependency-autonomy.

Part of my role is as an evaluator. Evaluations are measured and assessed through weekly individual/group supervision, self-assessment tools, and Evaluation of Counselor Supervisee's Performance assessment.

A Bit About Me and My Theoretical Orientation

I received my bachelor's degree in Social Work at Texas State University (1992) and my master's degree in counseling at Sam Houston State University (2012). I am certified in Nutritional Psychology from JFK University (2017), and a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach (FMCA 2021).

My clinical experience is diverse which includes working with children, teens, and adults from a wide range of backgrounds. Career opportunities led me to work in Child Protective Services, local MHMR, Inpatient Psychiatric Facility, as a National Behavioral Health Clinical Trainer, as Clinical Director at drug/alcohol rehab, and in Private Practice.

I work with you to help you identify and grow in skills within your own theoretical orientation. I am familiar with and have worked with many theoretical frameworks such as Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapies. As a trauma-informed counselor, the frameworks I utilize the most in therapy are Internal Family Systems, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Iasis Microcurrent Neurofeedback of which I am trained in. As well, as a Functional Medicine Health Coach I take a holistic approach as mind, body, and soul are intricately intertwined.  Lifestyle choices impact a person’s overall physical and mental well-being and simple changes can make big differences. Spiritually speaking, I am cognizant that one’s values, beliefs, and a sense of purpose in life can have a positive effect. I can help you know how to assist your client in discovering their path toward recovery as everyone is unique.

I adhere to the ACA Code of Ethics and the State of Texas Code of Ethics. You are responsible for knowing and following the Code of Ethics applicable to your credentialing body. Part of my role as a supervisor is to work with you as ethical and/or legal challenges arise to help you navigate and come to the best decision.
